Reuters - MANAMA (Reuters) - Formula One cars take to the track in Bahrain on Friday, with the government hoping for a successful Grand Prix, while activists are promising to mark it with "days of rage" after more than a year of Arab Spring protests. On the eve of the first practice session, protests flared in villages surrounding the capital, far from the circuit where the race will be held. Police fired tear gas and stun grenades to disperse demonstrators in clashes that have been building in the week leading to Sunday's round of the World Championship. ... Full Story

Lynagh remains in critical condition, says doctor

Reuters - (Reuters) - Former Australia captain and World Cup winner Michael Lynagh is showing positive signs but remains in a critical condition in a Brisbane hospital after suffering a stroke, his doctor said on Friday. The 48-year-old former flyhalf has been in hospital since Monday after suffering problems with his vision, coordination and balance. "This significant stroke is a rare event for someone of Michael's age," neurologist Rob Henderson said. ... Full Story

High Court delays Bangladesh tour of Pakistan

Reuters - DHAKA (Reuters) - Bangladesh's cricket team will not go to Pakistan as planned later this month after the Dhaka High Court upheld a legal challenge to their tour and ordered a four-week delay, a lawyer said on Thursday. Bangladesh had agreed to play a one-day international and a Twenty20 match on April 29 and 30 in what would have been the first full internationals in Pakistan since March 2009 when Sri Lankan cricketers and officials were attacked by gunmen in Lahore. ... Ricco handed by 12-year ban for blood doping

Reuters - (Reuters) - Italy's Riccardo Ricco was handed a 12-year ban on Thursday by the Italian Anti-Doping Agency, effectively ending his career. The 'Tribunale Nazionale Antidoping' found the 28-year-old guilty of blood doping after he was sacked by the Vacansoleil team last year. Doctors said he had botched a blood transfusion on himself that nearly killed him. Ricco was kicked off the 2008 Tour de France while in second place after failing a test for the blood-booster CERA. He served a 20-month ban from cycling and was also tried and fined 5,710 euros by a court in Padua, Italy. Full Story

China's Guan, 13, shoots 77 on Tour debut

Reuters - (Reuters) - Thirteen-year-old Chinese Guan Tian-Lang shot a five-over-par 77 at the China Open on Thursday when he became the youngest golfer to play in a European Tour event. Guan, who bogeyed his first hole and quickly slipped to five over par before making a birdie at the seventh, was 107 days younger than his compatriot Lo Shik-Kai at the 2003 Hong Kong Open. England's Matthew Baldwin set the pace with a first-round 65 to finish a shot ahead of a group of six players including Sweden's Fredrik Andersson Hed. ... Full Story

Muamba could play again, says Bolton manager Coyle

Reuters - LONDON (Reuters) - Bolton Wanderers manager Owen Coyle said he would not be surprised if Fabrice Muamba played football again after the midfielder suffered a cardiac arrest last month. Muamba has made a miraculous recovery after being described by his club doctor as "in effect dead" for 78 minutes after collapsing on the pitch during his side's FA Cup quarter-final against Tottenham Hotspur on March 17. The 24-year-old, who was discharged from hospital on Monday, needed 15 defibrillator shocks to restart his heart and is now resting back at home. ... Full Story

Reuters - ISTANBUL (Reuters) - Fenerbahce's Turkey international midfielder Emre Belozoglu has been handed a two-match ban for using a racial slur against Ivory Coast's Didier Zokora during a league game on Sunday, the Turkish Football Disciplinary Committee (PFDK) said.
