The Justice Department has obtained a warrant that will allow it to begin searching the computer that is believed to contain thousands of newly-discovered emails of top Hillary Clinton aide Huma Abedin, two law enforcement sources confirmed to CNN.

The computer in question is considered to belong to Abedin's estranged husband, former Rep. Anthony Weiner, and was seized as part of a separate investigation regarding allegations of him sexting with an underage girl.

Authorities believed they needed this new search warrant because the existing authorization, covered by an initial warrant, related only to that initial investigation.

Justice Department officials working to secure approval to allow the FBI to conduct a full search of Huma Abedin’s newly discovered emails have yet to approach lawyers for the top Clinton aide.

Sources earlier told CNN that discussions to seek an agreement to conduct a search had begun, but law enforcement officials now say they have not.

Either way, government lawyers plan to seek a search warrant from a judge to conduct a search of her computer, the law enforcement officials say.

The Justice Department and the FBI are in discussions with lawyers for Hillary Clinton aide Huma Abedin to secure approval that would allow the FBI to conduct a full search of her newly discovered emails, sources familiar with the discussions told CNN.

Government lawyers hope to secure a search warrant to permit investigators to review thousands of emails on a computer Abedin shared with her estranged husband, Anthony Weiner, officials said.

The new search warrant is needed because an existing authorization, covered by a subpoena, related only to the ongoing investigation of Weiner, who is accused of having sexually explicit communications with an underage girl.

One of two engines on an American Airlines Boeing 767 failed Friday during an attempted takeoff at Chicago's O'Hare International Airport, three sources familiar with the unfolding investigation say. Debris was found up to half a mile away.

The 161 passengers and nine crew members scrambled to safety after flames erupted on the right side of the plane.

"This could have been absolutely devastating if it happened later,"  Airport fire Chief Timothy Sampey said.

About 20 people were taken to the hospital with minor injuries.

Hillary Clinton on Friday forcefully called for the FBI to release "the full and complete facts" about its review of new emails tied to the bureau's investigation of her private server.

"Voting is underway, so the American people deserve to get the full and complete facts immediately," Clinton said during a brief news conference in Des Moines, Iowa.

Clinton said she didn't know what was on the messages. "Right now, your guess is as good as mine, and I don't think that's good enough," she said.

The emails are part of an investigation into allegations that Anthony Weiner exchanged sexually explicit text messages with an underage girl, according to law enforcement sources. Weiner, the disgraced former congressman, recently separated from top Clinton aide Huma Abedin.

The emails that prompted a new review of Hillary Clinton's private server were on a device being examined as part of an investigation into Anthony Weiner, law enforcement officials say.

The probe began last month after the former Democratic congressman from New York exchanged sexually explicit text messages with a purportedly underage girl. Weiner is separated from top Clinton aide Huma Abedin.

FBI Director James Comey says the bureau is reviewing new emails related to Hillary Clinton's time as secretary of state, according to a letter sent to eight congressional committee chairmen, a surprise development with 11 days before the election.

After recommending this year that the Department of Justice not press charges against the Secretary of State, Comey said in the letter that "recent developments" urged him to take another look.

"In connection with an unrelated case, the FBI has learned of the existence of emails that appear pertinent to the investigation," he said.

Breaking News

One week after we moved Nevada and Florida from "battleground" to "lean Democratic," both states appear to be snapping back to their traditional toss-up status. Our new CNN electoral outlook places both states back in the "battleground" category and increases the up-for-grabs turf to six states and two congressional districts worth a total of 87 electoral votes.

Clinton had not yet finished her two-day swing through the Sunshine State before her campaign let it be known that she would be back in Florida this weekend.

Florida is also one of the handful of states where the Clinton campaign remains heavily on the air with campaign advertising and where it announced today that two closing argument ads will begin to be seen across the state.

A new Bloomberg Politics poll putting Donald Trump a couple of points ahead of Hillary Clinton was some of the most welcome news the Trump campaign had to tout this week.

Florida's 29 electoral votes are the biggest prize on the map among competitive states and both campaigns plan to fight it out there all the way through November 8.

In Nevada, polls continue to show it is a margin-of-error race between Clinton and Trump and both candidates are expected back in the Silver State before Election Day.

A new NBC News/Wall Street Journal/Marist poll shows a dead heat with each candidate getting 43% of likely voters.

As Trump continues to shore up his Republican support and improve his standing among Hispanics (though still losing this group by a wide margin), he is ensuring Nevada remains competitive all the way through Election Day.

With the new changes to the CNN electoral outlook, our current snapshot has Clinton at 272 electoral votes from states either solidly or leaning in her direction. Trump has a total of 179 electoral votes from the states either solidly or leaning in his direction. That leaves 87 electoral votes currently up for grabs in the remaining battleground states.

Donald Trump said he is prepared to open his wallet and donate considerably more to his campaign in the closing days of the race.

He claimed that by Election Day, he will have spent $100 million.

Federal Election Commission records through September, however, show Trump has given far less to his campaign so far.

"I will have over $100 million in the campaign, and I'm prepared to go much more than that," he told CNN's Dana Bash outside his new hotel in Washington, D.C.

Trump also said he was confident of victory next month despite poll numbers showing him lagging behind Hillary Clinton.

"We are going to have, I think, a tremendous victory," he said.

The demolition of the "Jungle" migrant camp in France has begun.

A team of workers began pulling down tents, shacks and other makeshift shelters that thousands have called home over the past two years.

More than 3,100 migrants have been bussed out of the camp in the port town of Calais since authorities began a sweep on Monday, sending them to regions around the country to begin a months-long process for resettlement.

The Jungle has become a gritty symbol of Europe's migrant crisis and has been a thorn in the French government's side. But to a tight-knit community there, it is also a symbol of determination and resilience.

Trump, Clinton trade jabs at charity dinner

Anyone hoping for cooler heads after an acrimonious debate was likely disappointed.

Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton eschewed decades of tradition by offering a tough takedown of each other at the Al Smith dinner on Thursday. Historically, the dinner has been a good-natured roast.

"You know, last night, I called Hillary a nasty woman," Trump said. "After listening to Hillary rattle on and on and on, I don't think so badly of Rosie O'Donnell anymore."

Midway through his remarks, the crowd turned on Trump -- booing as he attacked Clinton's use of a personal email server and accusing her of ducking FBI questions. Clinton struck back during her speech.

Donald looks at the Statue of Liberty and sees a 4, she said.

Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump says that he will accept the results of the general election next month -- if he wins.

"I would like to promise and pledge to all of my voters and supporters and to all of the people of the United States that I will totally accept the results of this great and historic presidential election," Trump told supporters at a rally in Delaware, Ohio, his first comment since the final presidential debate Wednesday.

After pausing for effect, he said, "... if I win."

Trump was widely panned by Republicans and Democrats alike after the debate during which he refused to pledge to accept the results of the election, regardless of the winner.

Breaking News: Presidential debate

A CNN/ORC instant poll found that 52% of debate watchers viewed Hillary Clinton as the winner of the final presidential debate, compared to 39% who felt the same about Donald Trump.

Some Republicans were quick to condemn Trump’s refusal to say he would accept the outcome of the presidential election.

Republican Sen. Jeff Flake of Arizona, who has been a strong critic of his party's nominee, tweeted, ".@realDonaldTrump saying that he might not accept election results is beyond the pale."

Breaking News: Presidential debate

Donald Trump’s refusal to say he would accept the results of the presidential election exposed a divide with Republican vice presidential nominee Mike Pence, who told CNN's Wolf Blitzer before the debate "we'll certainly accept the outcome."

Trump's campaign manager, Kellyanne Conway, told CNN's Dana Bash after the debate that Trump will "accept the results of the election because he's going to win the election."

Trump's refusal could become a defining moment of the campaign. It marked an extraordinary departure from one of the most fundamental principles of American democracy: the peaceful transfer of power after an election. The candidates avoided shaking hands at the debate.

Breaking News: Presidential debate

The final presidential debate for Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump began on a frosty note as the candidates again abandoned the tradition of shaking hands at the outset.

Follow updates and watch coverage on CNN.

There have been moments of serious clashes, including over Trump's relationship with Russian President Vladimir Putin and the Republican nominee's immigration positions.

"We have some bad hombres here, and we're gonna get them out," Trump said.

But overall, the first part of the debate was dominated with exchanges over substantive policy issues, harkening back to previous election cycles that lacked the bitter personal battles of 2016.

Clinton said the Supreme Court should "stand on the side of the American people, not on the side of powerful corporations and the wealthy."

Trump said that the Supreme Court is "what it is all about" and rebuked liberal Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg for criticizing him before later apologizing. He warned that if Clinton were President, she would gut Americans' right to bear arms.

Clinton denied that she opposes the Second Amendment but called for legislation that included comprehensive background checks and efforts to close the so-called gunshow loophole.

The candidates also clashed over abortion rights, with Clinton insisting she would defend Planned Parenthood and the Supreme Court's Roe v. Wade decision.

Trump hit back saying she would allow late-term abortions. "You can take the baby and rip the baby out of the womb in the ninth month," Trump said.

Clinton accused Trump of adopting "scare rhetoric" on the issue.

Clinton will seek to consolidate her strong position, knowing that a winning performance could help close out Trump. But she is facing a barrage of new attacks following an avalanche of hacked emails released over the past week from WikiLeaks. She is bracing for a ferocious counterattack from a foe who has proven in past debates that there's no line he won't cross.

CNN has updated the Road to 270 presidential race ratings, moving the biggest electoral prize among the battleground states, Florida, from a toss-up to leaning in Hillary Clinton's direction. The same is true for Nevada.

In this snapshot of the current state of play, two traditionally Republican states that were leaning Donald Trump’s way now move into the toss-up category: Arizona and Utah.

Recent national polls show Trump to be in his weakest political position yet during the presidential campaign. Trump and Clinton meet in their final debate tonight at 9 p.m. ET live on CNN; watch it on any device.

After several days of tough negotiations, Billy Bush is leaving NBC, effective immediately.

His exit is the result of the leaked 2005 "Access Hollywood" videotape showing Bush and Donald Trump making lewd and sexually aggressive remarks about women.

Bush, a brand new host of the "Today" show's 9 a.m. hour, never returned to the show after the tape came out on October 7. He apologized for his conduct in a statement that day.

In a CNN interview scheduled to air at 8 p.m. ET, Melania Trump blamed her husband's remarks on Bush, saying the television host had egged him on.

Melania Trump told CNN her husband was "egged on" in a 2005 video on which he made lewd comments about his own sexually aggressive behavior -- remarks she called "boy talk."

"I said to my husband that, you know, the language was inappropriate. It's not acceptable. And I was surprised, because that is not the man that I know," the wife of the Republican presidential nominee said in an interview with CNN's Anderson Cooper, which is set to air at 8 p.m. ET Monday. Watch CNN.

"And as you can see from the tape, the cameras were not on -- it was only a mic. And I wonder if they even knew that the mic was on," she said, referring to Trump and NBC's "Access Hollywood" host Billy Bush.

It was the first on-camera defense Melania Trump has made of her husband since the video surfaced more than a week ago. Since then, Donald Trump has faced accusations of sexual misconduct from women who say he has kissed or groped them without permission over a period of decades. The Republican nominee has denied these accusations.

Hillary Clinton narrowly tops Donald Trump in North Carolina and Nevada, both critical battleground states, and continues to trail the GOP nominee in one of the biggest electoral vote prizes, Ohio, according to new CNN/ORC polls.

The polls were taken Oct. 10-15 as accusations of sexual assault against Donald Trump emerged. Those came after the release of a video in which Trump is heard talking about women in a sexually aggressive way. The polls find most voters in these battlegrounds had heard a great deal about the video, and most say the way Trump talks about women on the tape reflects his views about women generally.

A military operation led by Iraqi forces was launched today aimed at ending ISIS’ control of Mosul, Iraq.

The city, which has been under ISIS rule for two years, is the group’s last major stronghold in the country.

US military officials estimate there are 3,500-5,000 ISIS fighters in Mosul. ISIS supporters say there are at least 7,000 fighters there.

Some Peshmerga commanders who are part of the offensive expect it will take at least three months to clear the city as ISIS may leave sleeper cells behind. Others expect a quicker victory, with ISIS leaders choosing to retreat to the vast desert west of Mosul.

Breaking News: Presidential debate

Donald Trump exceeded expectations, but Hillary Clinton won the second presidential debate, according to a CNN/ORC poll of debate watchers.

The results showed a clear victory for Clinton, with 57% saying she won, as opposed to 34% for Trump.

It's a strong showing for Clinton, but not as good as her performance at the first presidential debate, when 62% of debate watchers said she won.

The results Sunday also track closely with watchers' pre-debate preference. Fifty-eight percent of debate watchers said they were supporting Clinton before the debate.

Breaking News: Presidential debate

Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump ended a scorched-earth debate with a handshake.

Earlier, when pressed by co-moderator Anderson Cooper, the Republican nominee seemingly dismissed the significance of sexually aggressive language he used toward women a decade ago. With Clinton's husband and daughter in the audience, Trump lashed into Bill Clinton's infidelities.

Clinton said that she had differed before with Republicans over policy.

"I never questioned their fitness to serve," she said. "Donald Trump is different."

In a twist, Trump slapped down his own running mate, Mike Pence, when the conversation turned to foreign policy. At last week's vice presidential debate, Pence said the US should be prepared to strike Syrian government targets to alleviate the siege of Aleppo.

"He and I haven't spoken, and I disagree," Trump said.

The candidates were asked by the final questioner to name one positive thing they respected about each other. Clinton referred to Trump’s children, and Trump said: “She's a fighter.”

Billy Bush will not appear on the "Today" show on Monday, a network spokeswoman said.

NBC’s sudden reversal came amid a chorus of calls for disciplinary action against Bush over his 2005 conversation with Donald Trump in which the GOP presidential candidate made lewd and sexually aggressive comments about women. Video of the conversation was published Friday.

Until Sunday afternoon, NBC sources said Bush would be in his usual co-host chair on Monday.

The news came just hours before Trump debates Hillary Clinton on CNN at 9 p.m. ET. The town hall forum is co-moderated by CNN’s Anderson Cooper. Follow updates and watch coverage on CNN.

Breaking News

President Barack Obama said that Donald Trump's lewd and sexually aggressive comments about women he made a decade ago were "disturbing" examples of "unbelievable rhetoric."

"Demeaning women, degrading women -- but also minorities. Immigrants. People of other faiths. Mocking the disabled. Insulting our troops, Insulting our veterans," Obama said about Trump at a campaign event in Chicago for US Senate candidate Tammy Duckworth. “That tells you a couple of things: It tells you that he's insecure enough that he pumps himself up by putting other people down. Not a character trait that I would advise for somebody in the Oval Office."

Obama's comments come just hours before Trump will face off against Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton in the second presidential debate, airing on CNN at 9 p.m. ET and co-moderated by CNN’s Anderson Cooper.

Trump released a defiant apology for comments that came to light Friday in a Washington Post story.

Donald Trump struck a defiant stance on Sunday, hinting that Republicans distancing themselves from him because of his prior lewd remarks about women would regret it.

"So many self-righteous hypocrites. Watch their poll numbers -- and elections -- go down!" he tweeted, as he and Hillary Clinton gear up for a town hall debate tonight at 9 p.m. ET on CNN.

And his top surrogate on Sunday TV news shows, Rudy Giuliani, tried to deflect concerns.

"The fact is that men at times talk like that. Not all men, but men do. He was wrong for doing it. I am not justifying it. I believe it's wrong. I know he believes it's wrong. I believe this is not the man we're talking about today," Giuliani told CNN's Jake Tapper on "State of the Union."

Breaking News

Arizona Sen. John McCain withdrew his support for Donald Trump on Saturday in the wake of sexually explicit comments by the GOP presidential nominee that surfaced Friday.

McCain also cited Trump's controversial remarks earlier in the week about the "Central Park 5" --  Trump said he believed they were still guilty in a 1989 rape despite being exonerated years ago -- in making his decision.

"Donald Trump's behavior this week, concluding with the disclosure of his demeaning comments about women and his boasts about sexual assaults, make it impossible to continue to offer even conditional support for his candidacy," McCain said.

Trump is scheduled to debate Hillary Clinton on Sunday night in a town hall forum that is airing on CNN and co-moderated by CNN's Anderson Cooper.

Breaking News

Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump told two newspapers Saturday that he has no intention of quitting the presidential race despite a growing chorus of Republicans urging him to step aside after a 2005 video surfaced with Trump using vulgar and sexually aggressive terms about women.

"I'd never withdraw. I've never withdrawn in my life," Trump told The Washington Post. "No, I'm not quitting. I have tremendous support."

He told The Wall Street Journal there is "zero chance I'll quit."

Also on Saturday:

  • Trump's running mate, Indiana Gov. Mike Pence, decided not to attend a Wisconsin GOP event at which he was scheduled to appear with House Speaker Paul Ryan in place of Trump, a campaign source told CNN. No reason was given.
  • Mike Crapo and Kelly Ayotte became the first Republican senators to back away from Donald Trump after his remarks about women were revealed.

Trump is scheduled to debate Hillary Clinton on Sunday night in a town hall forum that is airing on CNN and co-moderated by CNN's Anderson Cooper.
