Utah Rep. Jason Chaffetz on Friday night became the first sitting Republican member of Congress to pull his support of Donald Trump in the wake of sexually aggressive remarks by the GOP presidential nominee.

Chaffetz, the House Oversight Committee chairman, made the announcement in an interview with CNN affiliate KSTU.

"I'm out. I can no longer in good conscience endorse this person for president. It is some of the most abhorrent and offensive comments that you can possibly imagine," Chaffetz said.

House Speaker Paul Ryan, saying he was "sickened" by Donald Trump's comments, announced Friday night that the GOP presidential nominee would no longer attend a Republican event on Saturday in Wisconsin at which the two were to appear.

In unaired footage from 2005 that surfaced on Friday, Trump used vulgar terms to brag about trying to have sex with a married woman and being able to grope women.

Republican National Committee Chairman Reince Priebus condemned Trump's remark: "No woman should ever be described in these terms or talked about in this manner. Ever."

In previously unaired footage from 2005, Donald Trump bragged about trying to have sex with a married woman and being able to grope women, prompting him to apologize on Friday.

Trump is heard discussing women in vulgar terms during off-camera banter during the taping of a segment for "Access Hollywood," footage that was published by the Washington Post.

Trump dismissed the comments in a statement released by his campaign and sought to immediately deflect criticism onto the husband of his opponent, Hillary Clinton.

"This was locker room banter, a private conversation that took place many years ago. Bill Clinton has said far worse to me on the golf course -- not even close. I apologize if anyone was offended," Trump said in a statement released Friday.

The western eyewall of Category 3 Hurricane Matthew is brushing Florida's northeast coast, the National Hurricane Center says.

The storm's center is about 95 miles southeast of Jacksonville, Florida, with maximum sustained winds of 120 mph, and is moving north-northwest at 12 mph.

The U.S. unemployment rate ticked up last month as more workers on the sidelines started looking for jobs.

Unemployment rose to 5% in September from 4.9%, the Labor Department said. 

Meanwhile, employers added 156,000 jobs, slightly below the average for the year.

The report was the second-to-last checkup on the job market before voters go to the polls on November 8.

Breaking News: Hurricane Matthew

Historic Hurricane Matthew is stalking Florida's east coast early Friday.

Here's what you need to know: 

• The western eyewall of Hurricane Matthew is now just 5 miles off the Florida coast nearing Cape Canaveral
• The hurricane has been downgraded to a Category 3 with maximum sustained winds of 120 mph
• Forecasters predict storm surge in some areas could be as high as 11 feet and as many as 15 inches of rain could fall
• Florida Power & Light reports 307,250 customers are without power
• The National Weather Service warned that some places could be uninhabitable for weeks or months. The effects of the storm will be unlike any hurricane in decades, it said
• At least 269 have died in the Caribbean, officials said -- most of whom died in Haiti
