Hillary Clinton called on her supporters and Americans to support President-elect Donald Trump.

Calling her loss "painful," Clinton said the country must move forward.

"I still believe in America, and I always will. And if you do, then we must accept this result and then look to the future," Clinton said in New York. "Donald Trump is going to be our president. We owe him an open mind and the chance to lead."

House Speaker Paul Ryan congratulated President-elect Donald Trump on his victory, saying he will lead "a unified Republican government."

"Donald Trump heard a voice out in this country that no one else heard," Ryan said in remarks delivered in Janesville, Wisconsin.

US stocks started flat today after pulling back from a huge plunge signaled overnight.

Dow futures had plummeted nearly 900 points at one point as investors expressed fear about the expected policies brought on by a Donald Trump White House.

At about 10 a.m. ET, the Dow was flipping between gains and losses, while the S&P 500 and Nasdaq were down slightly.

Russian President Putin says he wants to restore fully fledged relations with the United States after Donald Trump's victory.

"(Trump) spoke about resuming and restoring relations with Russia,” Putin said on state TV. “We understand the way to that will be difficult, taking into account the current state of degradation of relations between the US and Russia."

"As I have repeatedly said, that is not our fault that Russia-US relations are in that state. Russia is ready and wants to restore the fully fledged relations with the US. I repeat we understand this will be difficult but we are ready to play our part in it."
