Top Tweets: Sharron Angle for President Edition
Thu, 27 Jan 2011 02:31 pm PST
The Atlantic Wire - The ever-unnerving Sharron Angle is back and might be running for president. Under the headline "Sharron Angle comes to Iowa, doesn’t rule out presidential bid," the Des Moines register reported that the Nevadan is keeping her options open and would love to come back to the Hawkeye state--where she is attending the premiere of a religious-themed thriller. Regardless of how much weight it carries, it's obvious that Angle's political aspirations make great Twitter material. @RichardNixonZombie considered what Angle could bring to the table as a candidate. .bbpBox30663029427273730 {background:url(http://a3.twimg.com/a/1295051201/images/themes/theme1/bg.png) #C0DEED;padding:20px;} p.bbpTweet{background:#fff;padding:10px 12px 10px 12px;margin:0;min-height:48px;color:#000;font-size:18px !important;line-height:22px;-moz-border-radius:5px;-webkit-border-radius:5px} p.bbpTweet span.metadata{display:block;width:100%;clear:both;margin-top:8px;padding-top:12px;height:40px;border-top:1px solid #fff;border-top:1px solid #e6e6e6} p.bbpTweet span.metadata span.author{line-height:19px} p.bbpTweet span.metadata span.author img{float:left;margin:0 7px 0 0px;width:38px;height:38px} p.bbpTweet a:hover{text-decoration:underline}p.bbpTweet span.timestamp{font-size:12px;display:block} Sharron Angle Won't Rule Out Presidential Run. Will Tea Party Patron Jim DeMint Run for President?
Thu, 27 Jan 2011 02:31 pm PST
The Atlantic Wire - Jim DeMint would go for the presidency in 2012 if none of the other candidates were sufficiently conservative, CNN's Peter Hamby reports. The South Carolina senator has denied harboring such aspirations for a year, but in March, he's headed to Iowa. His closest advisers say DeMint has set a high bar for entering the GOP primary--he'll only step in if there's "a massive void" among the candidates. Full Story

State Senator Criticizes Limbaugh, Receives Racist Death Threats
Thu, 27 Jan 2011 02:00 pm PST
The Atlantic Wire - Last week, conservative radio host Rush Limbaugh did an impression of Chinese President Hu Jintao that started out "Ching chong, ching chow chong cha," and continued on that way for 17 seconds. Leland Yee was one of the many people to take exception to this. Yee, a California state senator and chair of the state Senate Select Committee on Asian and Pacific Islander Affairs, called on Limbaugh to apologize for his "pointless and ugly offense." Limbaugh's response was not to apologize, but to criticize Yee on his program. Full Story

Yemen Catches the Protest Fever
Thu, 27 Jan 2011 01:43 pm PST
The Atlantic Wire - Protests have spread from Tunisia to Egypt and now Yemen, where people gathered in the street to demand the removal of the country's president today. But while Tunisia's uprising and Egypt's protests have sparked predictions of democratic transitions in the Arab world, the most recent unrest in Yemen may actually "pose a new threat to the stability of the Arab world's most impoverished nation, which has become the focus of increased Western concern about a resurgent al-Qaeda branch, a northern rebellion and a secessionist movement in the south," the Associated Press reports. Is Google Censoring the Search Function?
Thu, 27 Jan 2011 01:34 pm PST
The Atlantic Wire - Google has apparently succumbed to pressure from the entertainment industry and blocked many piracy-related terms from the "autocomplete" and "instant" function on its search bar. The blockage, which mainly involves torrent-related websites, will not affect that outcomes of the actual search, and the results at the moment, seem somewhat arbitrary. Type in 'bittorent,' and you're on your own, 'pirate music' and the results for the Pirate Bay will come up instantly. Full Story

Time: Anonymous Author of 'O' Is Mark Salter
Thu, 27 Jan 2011 11:43 am PST
The Atlantic Wire - This month, DC bloggers have been obsessing over "O," the anonymously-written novel about Obama's 2012 campaign. Though it was poorly received by critics, the challenge of identifying the author boosted the book's profile. Today, Time's Mark Halperin says he's figured it out: It's John McCain's longtime speechwriter Mark Salter. Aside from confirmation from sources, Halperin says there were a number of clues that tipped him off:--Simon and Schuster topper Jonathan Karp was Salter's editor on books he did with Senator McCain.
