Michaels, the first clinician elected instead of an academician to serve as president of the Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh medical staff and who practiced medicine into his 80s, died of a heart attack Friday. Dr. Michaels, of Shadyside, died while visiting his daughter and son-in-law, Susan and Mark Orringer, in Ann Arbor, Mich. He was 93.
