Reuters - LONDON (Reuters) - Oscar Pistorius complained vociferously about the length of his opponent's blades after he was beaten into second by Brazil's Alan Oliveira in the men's 200 metres final at the London Paralympic Games on Sunday. South African Pistorius streaked into an early lead and was almost 10 metres ahead as the athletes came into the home straight, before the Brazilian launched an astonishing fightback. Oliveira ate up the ground and surged past Pistorius in the final few metres. The underdog finished with a time of 21. ... Full Story

Reuters - Sept 3 (Reuters) - The English coach of Malaysia'sTerengganu Turtles, Peter Butler, faces a potentially violentbacklash after giving three players the chop for indisciplineand "suspicious" performances, local media reported on Monday. Butler hauled off goalkeeper Ahmad Sharbinee Allawee inSaturday's 1-1 home draw with Kedah in the Malaysian Cup afterhe appeared to fumble a corner into his own goal. Last week, the no-nonsense coach kicked out two seniorplayers - Muslim Ahmad and Ismail Faruqi - for allegedlybreaking a curfew. Sharapova won a nail-biter 6-1 4-6 6-4 against her fellow Russian to set up a clash with Frenchwoman Marion Bartoli. Petrova led 2-0 in the third set when rain halted proceedings for an hour and 13 minutes. Sharapova spoke to her father, Yuri, on the telephone during the break and took his advice to play with increased energy and aggression when play resumed. ...

Reuters - NEW YORK, Sept 2 (Reuters) - Maria Sharapova survived amajor scare before beating Nadia Petrova 6-1 4-6 6-4 in thefourth round of the U.S. Open on Sunday. The 19th-seeded Petrova led 2-0 in the third set when playwas delayed because of rain in Arthur Ashe Stadium. Sharapova, the Russian number three seed, has played 11three-set matches this year and won them all.
