Diaby keen to make up for lost time

Reuters - PARIS (Reuters) - France midfielder Abou Diaby vowed on Monday to take a full part in the 2014 World Cup qualifiers after a series of injuries ruined his past two seasons and ruled him out of Euro 2012. Injury-prone Diaby, who played just four games in Arsenal's last campaign, has looked in good form since the English Premier League season started and was widely praised when the Gunners defeated Liverpool 2-0 at Anfield on Sunday. The 26-year-old has not played for France since June 2011 and was dropped from the squad for this year's European Championship because he was not fully fit. ... Full Story

Spurs fans will love Dempsey: Klinsmann

Reuters - MIAMI (Reuters) - Former Tottenham Hotspur striker Juergen Klinsmann believes fans of the North London club will warmly embrace their new American signing Clint Dempsey. Dempsey, who joined Spurs from Fulham shortly before the transfer deadline on Friday, is a key part of the Klinsmann-coached United States national team and the pair teamed up at training on Monday ahead of two World Cup qualifiers against Jamaica. Klinsmann, who scored 38 goals in 65 appearances in two spells with Spurs, has no doubt that Dempsey has what it takes to win the hearts of the White Hart Lane crowd. ... Full Story

Pistorius shows disabled sport can stand controversy

Reuters - LONDON (Reuters) - South African "blade runner" Oscar Pistorius has unleashed a debate about disabled sport with an emotional claim that a rival in the T44 200 metres final at the London Paralympics beat him thanks to longer prosthetic legs. Pistorius had not been beaten over 200m for nine years, but the result of Sunday's final was less of a shock than the post-race outburst of a man who is the face of disabled sport partly thanks to his dignified campaign to be allowed to challenge able-bodied runners at the Olympics. ... Pro-settler graffiti found at torched monastery door

Reuters - JERUSALEM (Reuters) - Vandals torched the wooden door of a monastery near Jerusalem on Tuesday and pro-settler graffiti daubed in Hebrew was discovered on the building's stone walls, Israeli police said. "Police have opened a special investigation into the incident," Israeli police spokesman Micky Rosenfeld said of the arson that occurred at the Latrun Monastery. Rosenfeld said the name of an unauthorized settler outpost evacuated this week, called "Migron" and the words "Jesus is a monkey" were also scrawled at the holy site located inside Israel but not far from the occupied West Bank. ... White Sox enjoy home comforts to break slump

Reuters - (Reuters) - A return home helped the Chicago White Sox regain both their form and division lead with a 4-2 victory over the Minnesota Twins on Monday. The White Sox brought a four-game losing streak to U.S. Cellular Field where they quickly found their comfort zone, aided by Gordon Beckham's three RBIs and a solid outing from Hector Santiago on his first ever start. Santiago, who usually comes out of the bullpen, struck out six batters and allowed just one run in five innings. Petrova and Kirilenko claimed a 6-1 6-4 victory on Louis Armstrong Stadium court for their first victory over the American sisters, to reach the quarter-finals. The Williamses beat the Russians 3-6 6-3 9-7 in the second round at the Wimbledon championships after Kirilenko and Petrova had led 4-1 in the third set in their first meeting.
