(Reuters) - Angelina Jolie's aunt died of breast cancer on Sunday, a hospital spokesman in California said, nearly two weeks after the actress wrote about electing to have a double mastectomy after learning she had inherited a high risk of breast cancer. Debbie Martin, the younger sister of Jolie's mother, died at age 61 at Palomar Medical Center in Escondido, near San Diego. Her husband, Ron Martin, told Britain's Sky News that his wife had the same defective BRCA1 gene as Jolie. Jolie's mother, Marcheline Bertrand, died of breast cancer in 2007 at age 56. ...

Texas Legislature passes measure to prevent Medicaid expansion

Perry, a Republican, notified the Obama administration last summer his state would not expand Medicaid, which provides healthcare for low-income people. Researchers compared sleep patterns for close to 500 sets of identical or fraternal twins. They found that especially as kids got older, environmental influences - which include when parents put kids in bed, for example - explained more and more of their napping differences. ...

Texas lawmakers pass budget restoring money cut from schools

By Corrie MacLaggan AUSTIN, Texas (Reuters) - Texas lawmakers on Sunday gave final approval to a two-year budget that restores money cut from schools in 2011, adds funds for mental health services and calls for an 8.3 percent increase in state spending over the previous cycle. The Republican-majority House on Sunday voted, 118-29, to send Governor Rick Perry the $94.6 billion spending plan for 2014-2015. The Senate, which also has a Republican majority, approved it on Saturday on a 27-4 vote. The total budget, including federal funds, is $196.9 billion, a 3.7 percent increase. ...

Ford's profits will accelerate as Europe improves: Barron's

Last quarter, Ford's pretax profit in North America reached the highest level in a decade, but losses in Europe widened. The good news is that demand in Europe appears close to bottoming out, and may have done so already, Barron's said. As the continent becomes less of a drag, the stock could climb another 50 percent over the next two years, Barron's said. Ford shares finished at $14. ...
