Olympus plunged into the red and its share price tanked after details of massive hidden losses were discovered late in 2011, but it has since swung back into profit and Sony Corp paid 50 billion yen ($500 million) to become its biggest shareholder this year. ...

By Sharon Bernstein LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - A trade group representing producers of pornographic movies in Los Angeles on Tuesday called on the sexual partners of a porn actor to be tested for the virus that causes AIDS, after he apparently claimed to have tested positive. However, the group, the Free Speech Coalition, stepped short of calling for a moratorium on adult film productions. A series of twitter messages on Tuesday from the account of an actor who goes by the stage name Rod Daily saying that he had contracted the virus "appear to be authentic," the coalition said in a statement. ...

As many as 200,000 Americans might have been spared an early death in 2010 from a heart attack or stroke if they had received screening and treatment for preventable causes of heart disease such as high blood pressure, high cholesterol, obesity and smoking, the report found. ...

Better diet tied to fewer deaths after heart attack

Gender income gaps persist among doctors: study

Researchers used a nationally-representative survey conducted in 1987 through 2010 and found that although earning gaps shrank over time among non-healthcare workers, that was not the case for doctors and certain other health professionals. Michigan House approves expanding Medicaid under Obamacare

(Reuters) - The Republican-led Michigan House gave final approval on Tuesday to a bill that would expand the Medicaid health program for the poor under Democratic President Barack Obama's healthcare reform law. Representatives voted 75-32 to concur with modifications of a bill that they had approved in June and agreed to send it to Michigan Governor Rick Snyder, a Republican who has backed the expansion of the Medicaid program. State senators approved the bill last week on the narrowest of possible margins, a 20-18 vote. ...

ArQule to cut liver cancer drug dose on safety concerns

(Reuters) - Drugmaker ArQule Inc said it would lower the dose of its experimental liver cancer drug for a second time, after a late-stage trial showed that patients on the therapy were becoming more susceptible to infection. The company's shares fell as much as 20 percent as the setback comes after the drug, tivantinib, failed separate trials for lung and colorectal cancers. Providence Health to sell $744.5 million during September 9 week

(Reuters) - The Providence Health and Services Obligated Group is expected to sell $744.515 million of debt in three parts during the week of September 9, a market source said on Tuesday. The sale will consist of $252.265 million of series 2013D taxable direct obligation notes, and $327.785 million of series 2013E taxable direct obligation notes. Providence Health will also issue $164.465 million of series 2013C exempt revenue bonds through the Oregon Facilities Authority. Bank of America Merrill Lynch is the lead manager of the sale, according to the preliminary official statement. ...

Cameroon refurbishing cocoa drying ovens to meet EU rules
