Chelsea's van Ginkel faces six months out of action

LONDON (Reuters) - Chelsea's Dutch international midfielder Marco van Ginkel could be out of action for six months after knee surgery on Thursday, the Premier League club said. The 20-year-old Dutchman injured his anterior cruciate ligament during the first half of a Capital One (League) Cup match at Swindon on Tuesday. Chelsea said in a statement that the surgery had been successful. Van Ginkel, who joined the west Londoners in July from Vitesse Arnhem on a five-year contract, has made only two starts under manager Jose Mourinho. ...

The 35-year-old Swede has been sidelined for more than a month because of the injury that caused him to pull out during the first round of the British Open at Muirfield in July. Jamaica's Hue gets nine-month doping ban, doctor four years

BERNE (Reuters) - Jamaica midfielder Jermaine Hue has been banned for nine months for failing a doping test and the team doctor suspended for four years, FIFA said on Thursday. Hue, 35, tested positive for the banned substance dexamethasone at the World Cup qualifier away to Honduras on June 11, FIFA said. The doctor, Carlton Fraser, was banned for administering the substance. Jamaica, whose only World Cup finals appearance was in 1998, are bottom of the six-team group in the final stage of the CONCACAF qualifying competition with four points from eight games. ...

Balotelli was dismissed for arguing with the referee at the end of Sunday's 2-1 home defeat and suspended the following day. "I apologise to my team mates, who train hard every day. I also apologise to the referee," he said in an interview with Sky Sports Italia. "I reacted the wrong way to provocation. "Mario has made a mistake," he added.
