LONDON (Reuters) - Britain's Ladbrokes PLC has entered the Australian market by buying the owner of online bookmaker Bookmaker.com.au and sports marketing firm Panda Gaming. Ladbrokes said on Wednesday it had agreed to pay an initial A$22.5 million, or about 13 million pounds, for Gaming Investments, giving it a low cost entry into the regulated and growing Australian sports betting market. Launched in February 2012, Bookmaker.com.au achieved about A$400 million in stakes for the year to 30 June 2013, Ladbrokes said. ...

Soccer-Van der Vaart pulls out of Dutch squad

Sept 4 (Reuters) - Rafael van der Vaart has withdraw from the Dutch squad for their two upcoming World Cup qualifiers in Estonia and Andorra because of a hamstring injury. He has been replaced by Adam Maher of PSV Eindhoven, the Dutch Football Federation said on Wednesday. The 20-year-old replacement has won four caps. Van der Vaart's withdrawal follows that of Georgino Wijnaldum on Monday because of an ankle injury. He has since been replaced by Wesley Sneijder. ...

SEOUL (Reuters) - The organizing committee for the 2018 Winter Games in South Korea's Pyeongchang (POCOG) has poured cold water on North Korea's suggestion that it could co-host some of the Olympic skiing events at its Masik resort. North Korea's International Olympic Committee (IOC) member Chang Ung hinted on Tuesday that the North was willing to host events at the resort in Wonsan, Gangwon province. However, POCOG responded on Wednesday by saying that holding events hundreds of kilometers away from the host city was unrealistic and would breach IOC regulations. ...

Coach Cesar Farias told a news conference that 20 of his players, nearly the entire squad, had been affected. "They didn't have a good night and they weren't able to train well," he told reporters, without giving further details.
