New Madigan annex treats traumatic brain injuries

TACOMA â€" Madigan Army Medical Center opened a new, more modern facility Thursday to treat soldiers suffering from the signature injury of wars in Afghanistan and Iraq: mild traumatic brain injury, usually inflicted by enemy bombs. A Madigan annex, renovated at a cost of $3.1 million, offers more privacy for testing and increased comfort.

Kevin Green, an iconoclastic Tellurider and one of the region’s pioneering skiers, was killed Monday afternoon on the ski area when he collided with a rope. The fall, or the collision, fractured Green’s skull near the base of his brain and killed him instantly, according to San Miguel County Coroner Bob Dempsey.
