The Senate gave final congressional approval to a $1.1 trillion spending package that averts a government shutdown.
The measure passed 65-33 with bipartisan support. It now goes to President Barack Obama, who is expected to sign it into law.
Obama is scheduled to address a range of issues in his year-end news conference today at 1:50 p.m. ET.
