ISIS militants are reported to have blown up an ancient temple in the historic ruins of Palmyra, Syria. Syria's Director-General of Antiquities and Museums Maamoun Abdulkarim told the Syrian state news agency SANA that local sources in Palmyra informed him that ISIS members rigged the temple with large quantities of explosives and detonated them. It is unclear when the incident took place. The UK-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, which monitors the conflict, reported that its sources said ISIS blew up the temple, which dates from the first century AD, about a month ago.
