A part number from the aircraft debris found Wednesday on Reunion Island in the Indian Ocean corresponds to a Boeing 777 aircraft, according to a source close to the investigation.
Authorities are treating the discovery of the debris as a major lead in the search for missing Malaysia Airlines Flight 370, which vanished en route to Beijing in March 2014 with 239 people aboard.
