| Q&A platform for video VYou is announcing today $3 million in Series A funding, lead by RRE Ventures and Highland Capital Partners and followed on by High Peaks Ventures , Broadway Video Ventures, Kevin Wall , David Tish and Rick Web. Gunning for a media play, the New York-based VYou recently partnered up with Hearst Newspapers, MTV/VH1, Simon and Schuster and the Newark Peace Summit in order to help these brands better connect with their audiences. In the daunting shadow of YouTube VYou, which allows users to converse through brief snippets of video, will have to be nimbler and more niche in order to gain a competitive foothold in the user generated online video space. Since its November launch VYou has accumulated over 20 million views and 30K user sign ups. Founder Steve Spurgat tells me that he doesn't liken the company to a Quora or Formspring for video, but in fact chose the video element because it was simply the fastest way to achieve his ultimate goal of advancing how people communicate online, "My initial approach to creating this company was how to create knowledge, video is just the by-product.” Spurgat plans on using the new financing to focus on rolling out key product features and building out the tech team, "We're very lucky that VYou is an incredibly easy sell. The key is for us is to build a great product and let it sell itself." CrunchBase Information VYou Information provided by CrunchBase | |

| A 5:45 this morning, a man told another man to walk into traffic blindfolded. Using an iPhone app connected to their service, joysti.cc , Jarod Reyes moved Jon Gottfried trough light traffic in what amounted to a real-life game of Frogger. While I often think that we’d be better off if most start-up founders went to play in traffic, I never meant that they had to do it in real life, yet these two actually pulled it off and without killing anyone. This open source project allows programmers to build game mechanics and send game commands audibly through a smartphone connected to headphones. For example, you could program in a chess game and then force pawns to walk inexorably to their death or, as the gents point out, you could play virtual Tetris, piling bodies willy nilly like some mad scientist intent on creating a human-centipede-esque amalgam of flesh. The pair will be using the program this summer to stage larger games in fields around Brooklyn and Manhattan and they’re looking for folks to port their own games to the platform. You can tweet them here and check out the code here . You can also see Jon playing the game in the video below. Here’s their Hackathon presentation Product Page | |

| That was fast. Just like that Square passed $3 million in transactions processed, on a Saturday no less, according to a Tweet an hour ago by CEO Jack Dorsey. The mobile payments startup is seeing an acceleration in transaction volume. It took about 10 months from its public launch for Square to reach $1 million a day in payments going through its mobile app. Getting to $2 million a day only took about two months. And now, less than a month later, it is passing $3 million. Visa just invested , transaction volume is picking up—things are looking good for Square. COO Keith Rabois will be at Disrupt NYC. We’ll be sure to ask him what’s driving the surge in Square payments. @jack Jack Dorsey Boom. @ Square processed over $3 million today so far. Big weekend going into a bigger week. http://instagr.am/p/EjYzY/ May 21, 2011 7:57 pm via Instagram Reply Retweet Favorite CrunchBase Information Square Jack Dorsey Information provided by CrunchBase | |
