The United States military has conducted airstrikes on ISIS targets and airdropped humanitarian aid to the besieged residents in the Iraqi town of Amerli, the Pentagon says.
Australia, France and the UK also participated in the aid drop.
ISIS fighters have besieged the town of Amerli, 70 miles north of Baquba, since the Sunni extremists swept into Iraq from Syria in mid-June. Its 17,400 residents are enduring harsh living conditions with severe food and water shortages, and are without power.
