A newly distributed ISIS release appears to show the decapitated body of captive Japanese journalist Kenji Goto, after an English-language lecture is given by masked ISIS executioner "Jihadi John" to the people of Japan.
The 1-minute, 7-second video was released as others before it by ISIS media wing Al Furqan Media, and cannot be authenticated by CNN.
Goto had been seen and heard in recent statements released by ISIS in which the group demanded $200 million and then a terrorist held by Jordan in exchange for his release and that of other apparent captives.
Goto, a journalist, went to Syria because he said he felt compelled to tell the stories of war in all its trauma, complexity and humanity.
"Syrian people (have been) suffering for three years and a half. It's enough. So I would like to get the story of what ISIS wants to do," he said in October.
