Hormone-like compounds a threat?

A new study by the Bay Area Breast Cancer and the Environment Research Center (BABCERC) has found higher levels of chemicals that act like hormones in girls in the Bay Area than in a comparison group in Ohio. These include some brominated chemicals known as polybrominated diphenyl ethers (PBDEs), which are used as flame retardants; pesticides; and polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs).

NEWPORT, Ky. (AP) â€" A penguin that seemed to be responding well to cancer treatments at the Newport Aquarium in northern Kentucky has died. The 16-year-old chinstrap penguin named Tica was put down this month due to complications from degenerative spinal disease.
