That all changed in 2011 when Dave Rennie succeeded Ian Foster and was given the job of turning their fortunes around. Success under the former Wellington, Manawatu and New Zealand under-20 coach was immediate. Le Clos, the 2012 Olympic champion, touched in a time of one minute 54.32 seconds, with Pawel Korzeniowski of Poland taking silver in 1:55.01 and Wu Peng of China bronze in 1:55.09.
