North Korea's regime has "succeeded in making a more developed nuke" and fitted it to a new intercontinental ballistic missile, according to the country's state news agency.

There was no independent confirmation of the claims.

North Korean leader Kim Jong Un watched the process at the country's Nuclear Weapons Institute, KCNA reported.

This week, North Korea launched an intermediate-range missile that flew over Japan, further exacerbating tensions in the region and with the United States.
