Lobbyist latest to admit role in NY bribery scheme

Reuters - NEW YORK (Reuters) - A prominent Manhattan lobbyist on Wednesday was the latest person to plead guilty in a federal corruption probe that ensnared a New York state senator. Richard Lipsky, 64, told federal Judge Jed Rakoff that he funneled payments to former Democratic senator Carl Kruger in order to obtain favors. "Did you understand... that you were entering into an agreement to, in effect, bribe Mr. Kruger?" the judge asked. "Yes, your honor," an ashen Lipsky responded. New Jersey doctor to be extradited to Maryland in abortion case

Reuters - BALTIMORE (Reuters) - A New Jersey doctor facing murder charges stemming from the alleged abortion of late-term fetuses will be extradited to Maryland in the coming days, a New Jersey court spokesman said Wednesday. Steven Chase Brigham, 55, who is charged in Maryland with five counts of first-degree murder and other charges, waived his right to an extradition hearing, said Jason Laughlin, a spokesman for the Camden County, New Jersey, prosecutor's office. 2 UK white men sentenced for killing black teen

Associated Press -  A young black man lay dying in a south London bus stop. His friend called frantically for help while a gang of white teenagers who had stabbed him ran off. Two members of that gang were sentenced Wednesday for the 1993 murder of Stephen Lawrence, but three more remain at large.

Reuters -  LAS VEGAS (Reuters) - A couple wanted for a crime spree through Utah and Nevada that saw an elderly pair slain in their home and a woman shot in the head was arrested on Tuesday wandering in the desert, authorities said. Suspects Logan McFarland, 24, and Angela Marie Hill, 25, were spotted by the pilot of a sheriff's plane in a remote area of Elko County in northern Nevada, Supervisory Deputy U.S. Marshal Jim Phelps told Reuters. The duo were walking in the desert after they evaded highway patrol officers on Saturday in a car chase and later crashed their stolen Volkswagen Jetta, he said. ...
