Euro-Spain and Russia fined over fan racism

Reuters - WARSAW (Reuters) - The Spanish and Russian football associations have been fined 20,000 and 30,000 euros respectively after racist incidents among their fans at Euro 2012 matches, UEFA said in a statement on Thursday. The 20,000 euro sanction on the Spanish has been imposed after fans sang racist chants and engaged in other racist behaviour during the Group C match against Italy in Gdansk on June 10. Reuters - (Reuters) - The San Francisco Giants took over top spot in the National League West after an impressive pitching display by Madison Bumgarner led them to 5-0 shutout home win over the high-flying Cincinnati Reds on Thursday. Bumgarner pitched the entire game and allowed just one hit while striking out eight to bring up his 10th win of the season. It was a franchise record fourth straight shutout victory for the Giants which, coupled with a Los Angeles Dodgers 3-2 loss to the New York Mets, gave them sole possession of their division lead. ... Eto'o accused of tax evasion in Spain

Reuters -  MADRID (Reuters) - A Spanish public prosecutor has accused Cameroon striker Samuel Eto'o of conspiring to evade 3.5 million euros in taxes owed on income from his image rights when he was playing for Barcelona between 2006-2009. The former Barca and Inter Milan player, now with Russian Premier League club Anzhi Makhachkala, is accused of four tax offences, each punishable with up to five years in prison and a fine of as much as 21 million euros. ...

Reuters - LONDON (Reuters) - Croatian striker Mladen Petric has signed a one-year contract with Fulham after leaving Bundesliga team Hamburg SV on a free transfer. The 31-year-old, who missed out on a place in his country's Euro 2012 squad, made 98 appearances for Hamburg in four years at the club. "I like the Premier League and it has always been one of my wishes to come here," Petric told Fulham's website (www.fulhamfc.com). Two held over fear of attacks before Olympics

Seven years after suicide bombers killed 52 people in a string of coordinated attacks in London, British security forces are on high alert for any signs of trouble ahead of the Games, which start on July 27.
