| Inspirational Gervinho helps Roma close gap on Juve Sunday, Jan 26, 2014 11:42 PM PST (Reuters) - Rejuvenated Gervinho produced another inspirational performance for Roma on Sunday, setting up one goal and scoring with a stylish effort of his own in a 3-1 win over Hellas Verona. Adem Ljajic and Francesco Totti were also on target as second-placed Roma cut the gap between themselves and leaders Juventus to six points and re-ignited the Serie A title race. Gervinho has been a different player following his close season move from English Premier League Arsenal, where his sometimes comical finishing and bizarre performances made him the object of criticism and sometimes derision. The Ivorian, who scored the only goal in Wednesday's Coppa Italia win over Juventus, created Roma's first chance with a typical surging run down the left only to see his effort wasted by Mattia Destro who prodded the ball over from six metres. | NFL-Rice gains bragging rights over Sanders in revamped Pro Bowl Sunday, Jan 26, 2014 09:26 PM PST The revamped selection process and a gutsy play late in the game helped provide one of the closest finishes in Pro Bowl history as Team Rice edged out Team Sanders 22-21 in Honolulu on Sunday. With the league opting to abandon conference match-ups and invite Hall of Fame players Jerry Rice and Deion Sanders to draft teams, the change led to a competitive and close contest that went down to the wire. With Team Rice trailing 21-14 in the final minute, running back DeMarco Murray caught a 20-yard pass from Alex Smith to pull within a point. Rather than going for a routine point-after-touchdown (PAT) kick that would have tied the game, Team Rice attempted a two-point conversion for the go-ahead score and were successful when Mike Tolbert's short run took him into the end zone. Thousands of raucous green and blue clad fans lined the streets back home as buses headed to the airport carrying the team that will face Denver and quarterback Peyton Manning next Sunday at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey. "We had an extraordinary sendoff," Seattle coach Pete Carroll said at the team's opening news conference after a ride from the airport to their Jersey City hotel. Very cool." First off the plane that rolled into a private hanger was Seattle's bruising running back Marshawn Lynch, wearing sparkling gold head phones and a "Beast Mode" sweatshirt proclaiming his well-earned nickname.
