CNN Breaking News

Hillary Clinton has won the Iowa Democratic caucuses, according to final results from the Iowa Democratic Party. She just edges Bernie Sanders in the total of state delegate equivalents awarded Monday night.

Clinton earlier Tuesday told a crowd of cheering supporters that she was "thrilled" to be in New Hampshire "after winning Iowa."

A senior aide to Sanders told CNN early Tuesday that the campaign would ask the party to provide more information from specific precincts, given the extreme closeness of the Iowa caucuses.

On the Republican side, Ben Carson told Fox News after his fourth-place finish that Iowa victor Ted Cruz needs to fire campaign staffers for falsely telling caucusgoers that the retired neurosurgeon was planning to quit the race.

The Cruz campaign seized on the news late Monday that Carson would not travel directly from Iowa to New Hampshire or South Carolina, where the next primaries will be held. Carson's campaign said he was just going home to Florida to "get a fresh set of clothes."

Cruz's statement on Tuesday said his team should have sent around the Carson campaign's follow-up statement: "This was a mistake from our end, and for that I apologize to Dr. Carson."

Clinton speaks to Wolf Blitzer today on CNN at 1 p.m. ET. Watch CNN's New Hampshire Democratic town hall live at 8 p.m. ET on Wednesday, and follow complete coverage of the presidential campaign on CNN TV, CNN.com and CNN Mobile.
