Tanea Staples, the young girl who got a hug from President Barack Obama during his visit to Columbus in March, died yesterday. She had been fighting a malignant brain tumor since April 2008, and doctors told her family then that she would likely live just six months.

A toddler found unconscious Saturday in a swimming pool died Sunday of brain injuries. Alyssa Kidd, daughter of Danielle Hutcheson and Corey Kidd, was found Saturday floating unresponsive in the family pool, Hall County Sheriff's Col. Jeff Strickland said.
