Blackhawks' Carcillo picks up seven-game suspension for big hit

Reuters - (Reuters) - The NHL suspended Chicago Blackhawks forward Daniel Carcillo for seven games on Wednesday, for a hit that sent Edmonton's Tom Gilbert into the boards earlier this week. Carcillo's penalty includes loss of pay, and the ban was regarded as a repeat offence after he was also suspended for an illegal check in October. The latest hit came during the second period of Monday's contest, where both players were forced to leave with knee injuries, while Carcillo received a major penalty and game misconduct. Spurs' Ginobili to have hand surgery, out 6-8 weeks

photo(Reuters) - San Antonio Spurs guard and leading scorer Manu Ginobili will undergo surgery on his broken shooting hand on Thursday and miss up to two months, the National Basketball Association team said on Wednesday. The 34-year-old Argentine was injured during Monday's game at the Minnesota Timberwolves and will have a plate screwed into his left hand during the surgery, the Spurs said. The two-time All-Star was averaging 17.4 points, 3.8 rebounds and 3 assists through five games. Spurs coach Gregg Popovich said he expected Ginobli would be out six-to-eight weeks. ...

photo(Reuters) - Memphis forward Zach Randolph could miss up to eight weeks playing time after tests revealed the Grizzlies' second leading scorer has a torn medial collateral ligament in his right knee, the team said on Wednesday. Randolph, 30, sustained the injury when team mate O.J. Mayo fell into him in the first quarter of Sunday's game at Chicago. The 2010 National Basketball Association All-Star averaged 14.8 points and 7.5 rebounds in four games this season.
