Singer Etta James breathing on her own again

photoLOS ANGELES (Reuters) - Soul singer Etta James, who is terminally ill with leukemia, has been taken off a respirator and is breathing on her own again, her friend and manager said on Friday. Lupe De Leon said the "At Last" singer, 73, is soon expected to leave the intensive care unit of a hospital near her home in Riverside, east of Los Angeles. "The hospital is preparing Etta for release from ICU to a step down unit. She is stable and breathing on her own. Her blood pressure is normal," De Leon said. James was admitted to the hospital last week because she was struggling to breathe. ...

Jim Morrison's Laurel Canyon home damaged in arson attack

Reuters - LOS ANGELES (TheWrap.com) - A Laurel Canyon home once inhabited by Jim Morrison was damaged in one of the 19 overnight arson attacks that plagued Hollywood and West Hollywood early Friday morning, according to the Los Angeles Times. The fire -- at 8021 Rothdell Trail in Hollywood -- broke out at 1:20 a.m. in a nearby car, then spread to the house. Morrison lived in the 1922 Hollywood home with his girlfriend Pamela Courson. Spike Lee reprises Mookie role in "Red Hook Summer"

ABC shuffles execs at Stephanopoulos' "This Week"

Jon Banner, who oversaw the show from 2000 to 2003, will return, taking the place of Rick Kaplan. The new version of "This Week" debuts January 8. Banner, senior executive producer for "division wide initiatives," will continue to oversee big projects for the network. Court upholds rapper C-Murder's 2009 murder conviction

Reuters - (Reuters) - A Louisiana appeals court this week upheld the 2009 murder conviction of Corey Miller, the rap artist who recorded and performed under the name C-Murder. Miller was convicted of second-degree murder and sentenced to life in prison two years ago for the 2002 killing of a 16-year-old fan at a nightclub in Jefferson Parish, Louisiana. Miller appealed the verdict, saying he had been denied a fair trial because the judge had allowed prosecutors to share "prejudicial and unsubstantiated" testimony with the jurors, including claims that Miller had threatened witnesses in the case. ... The top-rated show was a "Criminal Minds" repeat that aired at 9 p.m., scoring a 2.3 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 6 share. With 10.5 million total viewers, it was also the most-watched show of the night. CBS averaged a 2.1 rating over the night. Actress Donna Douglas, now 78, sued the toy company in May as well as the consumer products division of CBS Corp. seeking a minimum of $75,000 in damages. Her complaint said Mattel was "engaging in the unauthorized use" of her name, likeness and image to promote and sell the "Elly May" Barbie.
