photo(Reuters) - Former FIFA vice-president Jack Warner said he was sold the World Cup television rights for Trinidad and Tobago for as little as $1 in return for supporting FIFA president Sepp Blatter in soccer elections. Warner, who resigned from all his soccer positions in June after he was suspended by FIFA following allegations in a cash-for-votes scandal, issued a statement on Thursday revealing the details of the television deals. A spokesman for FIFA said soccer's world governing body was "looking into" Warner's statement and would make no further statement in the meantime. ...

Reuters - DURBAN, South Africa (Reuters) - A delighted Rangana Herath praised the efforts of his team mates after bowling Sri Lanka to their first test win in South Africa at Kingsmead on Thursday. The left-arm spinner took five for 79 as South Africa capitulated in their second innings to lose the second test by 208 runs after winning the first at Centurion by an innings. "It was a whole team effort, that's why we won. We're very happy because we bowled them out for less than 170 and we played our brand of cricket. White Sox sign Danks to $65 million deal

photo(Reuters) - The Chicago White Sox have agreed to a five-year, $65 million contract extension with starting pitcher John Danks, the American League team said on Thursday. Danks, 26, will receive $8 million in 2012 and $14.25 million in each of the next four seasons up until 2016, the White Sox said in a news release. The left-hander posted an 8-12 record with a 4.33 earned run average and had 135 strikeouts in 27 starts for the White Sox last season. Motorcycling-Hayden breaks ribs, shoulder blade in training

Reuters - Dec 29 (Reuters) - Former MotoGP world champion NickyHayden broke two ribs and a shoulder blade during a trainingaccident in Kentucky earlier this week, the American'smotorcycling team Ducati said on Thursday. Hayden suffered the injuries near his home in Owensboro andhas since had x-rays, a CAT scan and an MRI. Ducati said no surgery had been scheduled but that the30-year-old rider would have the fractures assessed by aspecialist in California next week. Financier Edwards' RCR buys British Columbia ski resort

Reuters - CALGARY, Alberta (Reuters) - A ski resort company owned by Calgary financier Murray Edwards has bought Kicking Horse Mountain Resort in British Columbia from its Dutch developer, bringing to three the number of properties it owns in the Rocky Mountain region, which is known for deep powder skiing. Edwards' privately held Resorts of the Canadian Rockies bought the relatively new Golden, British Columbia, ski area from Ballast Nedam NV for an undisclosed sum. ... Full Story
