CNN Breaking News

Four Marines and the gunman were killed in the shootings in Chattanooga, Tennessee, a senior defense official said. The families of those killed are being notified of their deaths.

The shootings happened at a military recruiting center and a Navy Reserve center in different parts of Chattanooga, late Thursday morning.

Authorities are treating the shootings as an "act of domestic terrorism," U.S. Attorney Bill Killian said. The FBI said all options still are being investigated.

"We are looking at every possible avenue, whether it was terrorism -- whether it was domestic, international -- or whether it was a simple, criminal act," FBI special agent in charge Ed Reinhold said.
