Breaking News

The U.S. unemployment rate ticked up last month as more workers on the sidelines started looking for jobs.

Unemployment rose to 5% in September from 4.9%, the Labor Department said. 

Meanwhile, employers added 156,000 jobs, slightly below the average for the year.

The report was the second-to-last checkup on the job market before voters go to the polls on November 8.
