Donald Trump will win the key state of Ohio, CNN projects. No Republican has won the presidency without it. Hillary Clinton will win the key state of Virginia.
Trump and Clinton are locked in a surprisingly tight race for the swing states that will decide who becomes the next president.
Trump has a narrow edge in Florida, a state he likely needs in his column to have a viable path to the White House. Trump is also leading in North Carolina, though a significant number of votes remain to be counted.
Road to 270: Trump has 167 Electoral College votes, Clinton 122.
The tight contests suggest Trump has an increasingly possible path to the 270 electoral votes he needs to win. In response, global stock markets are falling and currencies are making wild swings as US presidential election results come in.
