The 2016 campaign has entered a new phase as both parties have wrapped up their nominating conventions.
At the Democratic convention, Hillary Clinton nodded to her status as the only woman ever to accept the nomination of a major U.S. political party: "When there are no ceilings, the sky's the limit.”
Clinton drew a contrast with Donald Trump's acceptance address at the Republican convention last week: “I sweat the details of policy.”
On national security, Clinton questioned whether Trump “has the temperament to be commander-in-chief.”
"A man you can bait with a tweet is not a man we can trust with nuclear weapons," Clinton said. Read Clinton’s speech in full.
Stephen Miller, Trump's senior policy adviser, hit back with a statement blasting Clinton's speech as an "insulting collection of cliches and recycled rhetoric."
Earlier on the convention’s final night, the father of a Muslim-American soldier who was killed in the Iraq War accused Trump of "smearing the character" of religious minorities like his family.
“Let me ask you, have you even read the United States Constitution?" Khizr Khan said, addressing Trump. "I will gladly lend you my copy.”
