CLINTON -- There was a point when every time Dee Parson thought about her son, Nathan Florey, she cried. The 2003 graduate of Clinton High School was on his second tour of duty in Iraq in October last year. While lifting weights, he had a brain aneurysm and was flown to Germany for medical treatment.

Hotcakes and Hoops benefits net almost $1,100

Despite a couple minor burns and a lot of very sore muscles among volunteers, a pair of May 2 events raised almost $1,100. The money goes to the Englewood Education Foundation and a fund to help police officer Shane and Alena EllisonĂ¢€™s 4-year-old daughter Tayler, who is battling a severe brain tumor.
