Golf: Snedeker misses European Tour magic number by a whisker
Saturday, Nov 03, 2012 12:00 AM PDT
SHENZHEN, China (Reuters) - American Brandt Snedeker fell agonizingly short of becoming the first golfer to shoot a sub-60 round at a European Tour event after he misread his putt at the HSBC-WGC Champions on Saturday. Snedeker was within an inch of creating a small slice of golfing history during the third round when the 31-year-old stood over a 20-foot putt on the 18th green at Mission Hills. Had he holed it, he would have become the first player to shoot the first sub-60 score in one of golf's World Championship events. ...

Clippers heap more misery on winless Lakers
Friday, Nov 02, 2012 10:59 PM PDT
(Reuters) - The Los Angeles Clippers piled more misery on their cross-town rivals with a 105-95 win over the Lakers at the Staples Center on Friday. Despite the addition of high-profile recruits Dwight Howard and Steve Nash, the Lakers were 0-8 in preseason and have started the NBA regular season with three straight defeats -- their worst start since the 1978-79 campaign. Nash did not start on Friday due to a contusion on his left leg but it is doubtful whether his presence would have helped the Lakers break down a tough Clippers unit, who improved to 2-0 to start the season. ...

Wind-tattered American flag flies in front of block of high-rise apartment buildings devoid of power, heat and water in Brighton Beach neighborhoodNEW YORK (Reuters) - While power returned to much of Manhattan and fuel supplies were headed for the disaster zone, residents of some of the hardest-hit areas faced a long wait for electricity and help after superstorm Sandy's devastating strike on the U.S. Northeast. Angry residents wondered when their lives would return to normal. ...
